Barbara Good Fortkamp has joined the Immaculate Conception Parish staff as Pastoral Care Lay Minister and Bereavement Coordinator. Barb and her family owned Southwick-Good & Fortkamp Funeral Home in Clintonville for over 93 years. She is honored to have been offered this opportunity at Immaculate Conception to serve this amazing faith community in many ways and continue to walk through the grief journey with our parish families.
The Immaculate Conception community has been part of Barb’s life since the sixth grade when she began attending IC school. She went on to graduate from Bishop Watterson High School. After attending The Ohio State University as a Psychology major, she graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1993. She then joined her family as a 4th generation funeral director and embalmer in the family business.
Barb is married to Jonathan Fortkamp, who grew up in the OLP and Bishop Watterson communities. They were married at Immaculate Conception in 1996. The couple have two children, Will and Ella. They have both received the Sacraments through IC and are graduates of IC School and Bishop Watterson. Will is currently a senior at Ohio University, studying Aviation Management with minors in Business and Communications. Ella is going to start at Xavier University this fall, majoring in Nursing and minoring in Catholicism and Culture.
With this new opportunity, Barb is excited to continue to serve the IC community in a new way, but still being able to apply her years of experience in funeral service.
